Communicating this notice to our lake community is part of the due diligence required to obtain a signature waiver per the DNR permit approval process.

RCWD provided their annual delineation map to us today that was conducted on May 29.  Heavy EAW growth was identified on the western side of the lake and will be targeted for weed treatment.

We will be contracting with Lake Management Inc and will determine a treatment date contingent on permit approval, which we intend to procure ASAP.

If you desire that the treatment not occur adjacent to your property, please contact us at llianewbrighton@gmail.org with your address and we'll inform the treatment company.

Separately: RCWD's spring carp management efforts will be wrapping up soon.  We’re on track to remove only 2500 carp this year, down from ~14,000/yr in recent years.  The reason: The carp population is significantly lower this year.  Removing 2500 still meets our goal of at least 50% (we think we’ve removed more like 60-70% this year).  We’re hoping to see some improvements in water clarity very soon.

I want to share a quick note that we've been awarded $2,100 from the DNR towards aquatic invasive species treatment for 2023.  This will be applied to our summer weed treatment, which cost $4,500 last year.

Big thanks to the chair of our Water Quality Committee, Jennifer Tenenbaum, for submitting the application and coordinating our treatment.  The weed delineation mapping will be performed by Rice Creek Watershed District in May and we'll target June for the treatment through our new partner, Lake Management, Inc.  We switch to their service last year and they were very responsive.

Email us if you have any questions.

    2022 CLEAN UP DAY RESULTS

Many thanks to our 2022 Clean Up Day volunteers.  We had our best turnout in recent memory and recovered a lot of trash and junk from the lakeshore.  Many hands definitely make light work!

Reminder that our annual Clean Up Day is the Saturday after Labor Day.

Heavy objects and antiquities of the past.

Golf balls recovered - please don't use the lake as your golf range!

BOARD OF DIRECTORS & DELINEATION MAP

A couple of updates to share with the community.

FIRST: We had our Board of Directors and Officer elections tonight along with organization into committees.  Details from the meeting and 2022/2023 election assignments can be found here: 2022 BOD and Officer Election.pdf

SECOND: RCWD provided their annual delineation map yesterday.  We have provided it to our weed treatment company and they'll be following up with a bid and timeframe.  We'll keep you posted.  Per Matt Kocian from RCWD:

"Interestingly, EWM was found in the southern basin, but it was not actively growing or particularly dense.  Also, most of it was laying flat on the bottom.  Thus, treatment is unnecessary.  Odd.  The north basin, on the other hand, has fairly widespread and dense EWM, suitable for treatment."

    Be safe!

    - John

Despite some windy conditions, we had over 100 people come out to enjoy the luminary trail and tree burn.

Next year we'll need some more help, so please consider helping out for a few hours the afternoon of the event for setup. Creating the trail is a bit of a daunting task where many hands can make light work.

Big thanks go out to this years volunteers:

    • Dana and John Johnson plus their nephews for helping to make the trail and for hosting a firepit and other fun stuff
    • Jake Shaver for providing traditional ice luminaries for the main firepit
    • Luke Broghammer for christmas tree collection and Logan Broghammer for luminary take down
    • Mike Battaglia, Dale Swanson and Larry Valtinson for hosting additional fire pits along the trail.
    • Sam Hickman for luminary setup and take down assistance
    • Jason Scott for safety committee assistance
