AIS Starry Stonewart Search - August 18th

13 Aug 2018 9:29 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)

Ramsey County is looking for 3 volunteers to help do a search to detect Starry Stonewort in Long Lake on Sat., August 18th.  Here is what we were given from Justin Townsend with Ramsey County AIS Coordinator for itinerary:

“We will meet here at the office (1425 Paul Kirkwold Drive in Arden Hills) at 8:30 AM, head to lakes around 9 AM, be back around 12:30, wrap up by 1 PM at the latest.”

Original Notification:

Just a short email for all of those interested in protecting their lakes from the spread of invasive species. Starry Stonewort was recently found in Hennepin County’s Medicine Lake. proximity is one factor that raises a lakes opportunity to be infested. We all have a part in making that doesn’t happen.

We know that early detection is key to effective treatment. Can’t treat it if you don’t know it is there. Starry Trek, a one day search for Starry Stonewort (and other AIS) that will be held on August 18th. There is a good crew already signed up but I could use at least three more people to help. No training needed I will give you the details. Find out more here or better yet just sign up here.

Can’t be there on the 18th? You are still an important piece to Ramsey County’s AIS prevention strategy. Get out on your boat, walk your shoreline, and while you enjoy the lake report anything that looks suspicious.

Please help where you can. I hope you’re taking advantage of summer. Thank you for preventing the spread of AIS.
